Did you have a good GW1? I hope you captained Salah. My team is terrible so far, but I did captain the king, so it went OK at the end. Looking now to GW2, and in 20/21 if you say GW2 you say ManU assets. Almost everyone came into this season with a prepared plan on how to involve United assets. Maybe you kept them on the bench, maybe you kept some money ITB for the transfers, maybe you’re wildcarding this week. In any of those cases, I think the data below will prove useful. We are comparing the 4 ManU attacking assets. Let’s begin
First player we will look at is – Martial
Tony had his best season since arriving from Monaco to Manchester with 17G and 9A. He is a beast no doubt about it. He’s advanced stats also highlight how good of a finisher he is, with xG of 13.2. He scored 4 above what he was expected, and I predict this season will be no different. In fact I’m tipping him as my favorite to win the golden boot. Tony was much better at Old Trafford with most of his goals and assists coming in home games. Good thing that they start with 4 home games in the next 6. On top of that, he did particularly well in the FDR2 games. With Utd first FDR4 game coming in GW12 he must be in your thoughts
Second player is Rashford
Rashford had almost the exact same output as the guy above. 17G and 8A, they have now switched positions, so it seems like it’s a no brainer. But Rashford has presumably lost his penalty kicks to Bruno and this will hurt his overall output. His xG was a lot higher than Martial which shows he is 1. Less prolific. 2. Gets More chances. This is a tough choice. In oppose to Tony he excels in the tougher games where his speed probably helps him break those though defenses. Again, much better at home than away. I really love him as a player, but the additional 0.5m will probably sway the decision in Martial favor.
Third player is Bruno
What can I say about Bruno that haven’t been said already? I brought him in last season as a punt before he even played a minute. And boy that was a decision that changed my season. Everything Utd does goes through Bruno. Period. It’s only a question will he score, assist, or pass to the assister. On all the set pieces and GW1 showed us how much penalties are important, especially for a Utd player. Outscored massively both his xG and xA, but as I like to say, great players always do, otherwise they would be average players. Surprisingly and unlike the 2 above, he is much better away from home, and this is something I would like to monitor going into this season. But all in all he is a great choice and there is no doubt in my mind he will have many returns. Only question is if you can cover his returns by spending at least 1m less on their other assets.
Forth player is Greenwood
Mason came into the league and immediately made his mark. Well immediately is not the right word. But once he got his chances the returns were not long to follow. A killer in front of goal, as proven by the difference between his xG and actual goal (7!). He is predicted to get much more minutes this season (unless the Sancho deal happens) and surely he will be worth the modest 7.5m price tag. Most of his goals came at Old Trafford and he was much better in the easier games – in fact he almost disappeared completely in the tougher matches, often getting off as the first sub. It feels like he is the least threatening player out of the 4, but lets not forget, what you can do with ~2-3m in other places on your team
Now, for the comparison data. This is only showing the last 15 games of the season. Basically, since Bruno joined. I hope you find it useful:
To conclude, I will be brining in Martial this week. And for the rest it’s a wait and see. I don’t want to commit to a double or even triple Utd before I see them play. But that’s not to say that I’m ruling those options out. Remember we have 37 GWs left. No need to break the piggy bank just yet.
