A quick sail in the shots in the box sea this week…
It’s been a rough week in the world of school teaching for me, so this weeks’ article will be a bit shorter but it will still give you a preview of the best shots in the box merchants this GW.
My sorry excuse for GW5 picks…
Patrick Bamford – 2pts ❌
Aleksandar Mitrovic – 0pts 🤢
Ollie Watkins – 2pts ❌
Chris Wood – 2pts ❌
Callum Wilson – 2pts ❌
Raul Jimenez – 8pts ✅
It’s not been plain sailing the past few weeks. This season is so damn unpredictable. Let’s hope for better luck this week.
Gameweek 6 Half Dozen
I am getting to the stage of this where I want certain players to stop taking so many shots in the box because they’re ruining my success rate. This week looks like I have trawled through the mediocre, bargain bucket striker section of FPL. Remember though, these are guys who have taken lots of shots in the box, playing defences who have conceded many a shot in the box so far this season. Let’s dive in…
Six: Mo Salah (£12.3m) v SHU (h)
My captain this game week, like many I imagine. The Egyptian King has the highest number of shots in the box of any player so far this season (19). He plays a Sheffield United side yet to keep a clean sheet this season. They have also conceded the sixth highest shots in the box this season (41). His aSITB score is 6.0.
Five: Neil Maupay (£6.6m) v WBA (h)
An interesting one and it still shows that Operation Target West Brom is still very much a go. Maupay has the joint eighth highest shots in the box count so far this season (13). He has managed to score 4 goals in his first 5 games. WBA managed their first clean sheet this season (insert ironic cheer here) but it was against Burnley so does it really count? WBA still find themselves third for shots in the box conceded (48). Maupay’s aSITB score is 6.10.
Four: Timo Werner (£9.3m) v MUN (a)
It turns out Timo is an FPL asset after all. Perhaps the presence of Pulisic is pivotal (purposeful alliteration). He has managed 12 shots on target in his first 5 games. He plays a Manchester United side that have started to turn their season around. They have still conceded in 4 of their last 5 competitive games. They have conceded 40 shots in the box and have played one game less than most. Werner’s aSITB score is 6.20.
Three: Aleksandar Mitrovic (£5.9m) v CRY (h)
F*ck this guy. Somehow his aSITB score is 6.20.
Two: Ollie Watkins (£6m) v LEE (h)
Watkins has an impressive number of shots in the box considering he has played a game less than most (11). Leeds have been an impressive outfit and they will cause a lot of teams problems but they have conceded the most shots in the box in the league so far (53). Watkins’ aSITB score is 6.40.
One: Raul Jimenez (£8.5m) v NEW (h)
For the second week running, Reliable Raul is the number one pick. He was my only shining light last week in a sea of darkness. I’m hoping this week, he isn’t the only pick who shines. He has 12 shots in the box so far this season and has 3 goals. He plays a lackluster looking Newcastle United who look like the only tactic they have is luck. If Steve Bruce could choose a team talk on football manager it would be set to “do it for the fans!” on repeat. They have conceded 52 shots in the box (2nd highest). Karl Darlow is the highest scoring FPL goalkeeper, which is down to save points and the lack of clean sheets across the division. I think NUFC’s luck is running out. Jimenez’s aSITB score is 6.50.
All the best for GW6!
Until next time,
